My second species of Whistler coming from Jane Anderson last summer. The males and females are almost identical and undistinguishable but for potentially a difference in size and behaviour. They have a distinct white head, foreneck and throat. Their sides are barred black and silver/white. Legs are grey with large feet.
They originate in South America and Africa. Where they inhabit flooded land and swamps. They are perhaps my noisiest wildfowl species and as with most whistlers actively demons
Eggs are laid in clutches of 8-10 which take an average of 28-30 days to hatch.
A disadvantage with this species is I find they dont tollerate the cold very well which effects there webs and feet.
